Londorossi Gate to Forest Camp
A four-hour drive around the mountain to Londorossi for registration, then the trek begins in lush montane rainforest beneath towering fig trees, with blue monkeys and turacos overhead.
The Lemosho Route is the connoisseur's way up Kilimanjaro: a western approach through untouched rainforest onto the open Shira Plateau, joining the busier southern trails only on day four. Colobus monkeys, giant lobelias and uninterrupted views of Kibo come as standard.
This seven-day itinerary adds one full mountain day over the standard six — a night at Moir Hut — which measurably improves acclimatisation and summit success without adding a second week to your trip.

Forest thins into heather and volcanic rock. The trail offers sweeping views west across the plains and, when the cloud breaks, your first glimpse of Kibo Peak before the descent to Shira 1.
A long day crossing the meadows and streams of the Shira Plateau before turning north to the quiet Moir Hut valley — a campsite most groups never see, and superb for acclimatisation.
Ascend to Lava Tower, the striking volcanic plug known as the Shark's Tooth, for lunch at 15,190 ft — then descend to Barranco. Climb high, sleep low, in its purest form.
Scale the iconic Barranco Wall — a thrilling scramble that is not technical but needs both hands — then cross Karanga Valley and push on to Barafu base camp.
The summit attempt begins around midnight on loose volcanic scree to Stella Point, then a final push along the rim to Uhuru Peak — the Roof of Africa. Descend all the way to Mweka.
A last descent through verdant forest to Mweka Gate to collect your summit certificate, then transfer back to your hotel in Moshi.
