Day 3

Dar es Salaam – Mpanda – Katavi National Park

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the Air Tanzania flight to Katavi via Mpanda.

Katavi National Park is pure wilderness. Few parks anywhere in Africa offer such a tantalizing combination of breathtaking wildlife viewing, a remote setting and low visitor numbers. Four of the Big Five are present, with lion, buffalo and elephant all being very common. Leopard sightings are more hit-and-miss. The waterways of Katavi host impressive concentrations of hippo, crocodile and aquatic birds. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.

Day 4

Full Day Katavi National Park

Breakfast then depart for a full day experiencing Katavi National Park.

There might not be the widest variety of wildlife on the average game drive, but sightings tend to be spectacular, and you'll mostly have them to yourself. Lion and elephant are common, and you can also expect to see thousand-strong herds of buffalo. Even more remarkable are the park's hippos, which are forced to gather together in their hundreds in small pools as the rivers dry up, leading to regular fights between the highly territorial males. During the dry season in Katavi National Park, the Katuma River is packed with hippo, while crocodile bask on the sandbanks. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.

Kigoma is a town and lake port in northwestern Tanzania, on the northeastern shores of Lake Tanganyika. It is close to the border with Burundi. A hidden gem in Tanzania, it is a place where natural beauty and historical significance intertwine. Situated in the western part of Tanzania, it offers a unique blend of breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and promising economic prospects. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.

Day 6

Kigoma – Gombe National Park

In the morning after breakfast, you'll be driven to Lake Tanganyika for your boat trip to Gombe National Park.

Set on the shore of scenic Lake Tanganyika, forested Gombe National Park is one of the best places in Africa to track chimpanzees. Originally habituated by Jane Goodall in the 1960s, the chimpanzees of Gombe now form the subject of the world's longest-running study of a wild animal population. Observing these fascinating apes, which are our closest living genetic cousins, in the wild is a truly unforgettable experience. Meals and accommodation at the Lodge.

Day 7

Full Day Gombe National Park

Full day chimpanzee tracking in the park, with picnic lunch.

Gombe's chimps are the main attraction, but the park is also home to a habituated troop of olive baboons that can usually be found on the lakeshore. Several other monkey species are present, notably the endangered Ugandan red colobus, which is sometimes hunted by chimps. The main wildlife attraction in Gombe National Park is tracking chimpanzees on foot. The park actually supports two chimpanzee communities, totaling about 100 individuals, and you will be taken to look for the same one that was habituated by Jane Goodall in the 1960s. Once you've found the chimps, you can observe them for one hour, whether they're feeding, resting, or walking, before you return to camp. Meals and accommodation at the Lodge.
